Coping with Sensory Overload

By Amitabh Swetta
In Today’s urban day we are being bombarded with unprecedented amount of information. Check this out…

We wake up, immediately pick up our phone, check our social media feed (information) on our smartphones, go for a shower, come out read our newspapers (information) and have our breakfast, get out for work, turn our car on and start the radio (information), roads are filled with Hoardings and signage (information), work and gather information from Google in that process, you head back from work in car Radio, signage and hoardings plus phone feed… come home watch Television (information), read or listen to something (information). Moreover the smells, sounds, touches are feeding in a whole lot of data input continuously into the central nervous system.

What is this Sensory overload doing to us?

The brain of a mature adult really cannot over absorb things. At some points it experiences fatigue. Wherever the excesses occur, there is always signal… call it lack of concentration and-or headache, stress, anxiety, whatever, it always comes.

Imagine this, turn on 25 applications on your phone. After a few minutes your phone will slow down and after a bit more time it might hang. What would you do in such a response from your phone? You would go ahead and reset you phone. This is the same response you get in your brain (Bio computer) when you are flooded with information for a long period of time.

Wouldn’t you like a reset sometimes?A true R.E.S.T.? If you are still with me … Welcome to the world of Floating.

What is a Float Therapy?

A float Therapy is known by many acronyms. I.e. Float, floatation therapy, R.E.S.T. (Restrictive environmental stimulus therapy), Sensory Deprivation Tank

It’s a Pod/ room/ tank filled with about 2000 liters of water and about 750 Kg’s of Epsom salt is added to the mix.

Lie down inside and firstly you escape gravity….

A mixture of 35% Epsom salt in water, releases you from the bondage of the gravitational force and you become buoyant… effortlessly.

Imagine a space where gravity does not exist, your muscles relax totally, your bones and ligaments start to relax, your neuro-chemical and bio-chemical feedback gets a free flow, Your Central nervous system now starts firing perfectly, opening up the Para sympathetic nerves, calming you down, Opening up new neural pathways for you to utilize while making you sharper and clearer in your thought process, you can now let that tense neck relax and let go off all the tensions we carry on our spine bringing it to its natural state.

Now, the first sensory input and the largest one by far… The Eyes. Our eyes accumulate about 50% of the information that is around us. Everything that we see is computed inside our bio computer (the brain) 50 % of it is through our eyes.

In total darkness of the float therapy you shut out 50% information of the brain to start giving it a true R.E.S.T.

A meditator relates to this always by shutting the eyes to the outside world Or Indian and Buddhist sages do their meditations in dark caves for this specific reason.

When you shut the lights out whenever you feel comfy and if you don’t feel comfortable then keep the lights on and just shut your eyes through the session. There is always another session to shut the lights out and experience new boundaries of tranquility.

So most of the float centers provide you with disposable earplugs so that you immerse your ears safely in water and let go off that sensory input which is a switched on mode 24X7. Try to understand that these amazing ears are tuned in to absorb information even if you are sleeping. Once you let your self immerse in the water, the auditory input now is reduced and you start relaxing even further listening to your heart beating and the sound of your breath.

And the thoughts come and go… as you understand not to hold on to them and let them come or go, or focus and hold a specific thought to get answers from the innermost depths of unimaginable and amazing bio computer of yours.

The warm liquid is heated exactly to our body temperature and you now cannot distinguish where the body ends and where the water begins… you start dissolving…. Little by little you disappear… resting in an unimaginable space and time bubble.

The music comes on at the end of the desired session… as we turn the lights on…

And we lie in a warm fuzzy feeling from inside.

The world around us starts to come back, and now we are being reborn as if we were floating in a mothers’ womb. Get out and you are welcomed by gravity. And you head for the shower. You look at yourself and there is a certain glow from the inside…. And you understand the amazing capabilities of the float…

Its always advisable to sit in silence after you float for about 10 min. so that you can express and absorb to yourself about how amazing this session was ….

Mantras: Ascend , evolve, elevate

Welcome to the 1000 Petals blog
: By Sharaha Amitabh

In Its literal meaning the word Mantra Means ‘ Revealed Sound’. The ‘ beej’ Mantras are the primordial sounds which develop without a language barrier in the ancient times. Oldest Reference of Beej mantras are found in the old Vedic scriptures, which are more than 8,000 years old.
It is said that these sounds were revealed to the seekers (Rishis) and other psychic beings where their consciousness itself had expanded with deep meditation and nothing but the sound was revealed with the inner light.

So what is a Beej Mantra?

A mantra is a spoken vibration of sound. A Beej Mantra does not have any specific meaning. But its power is not in the words, but in the sound vibrations it creates when the mantra is uttered verbally or when it’s generated in the mind where it starts resonating first.

How do Mantras work?

Now imagine this… if I kept a glass of water in front of a huge speaker and turned the music on, of course the water will vibrate with the sound frequency.
We know scientifically that we are made of 70 Percent water. Then why wont we vibrate if at all the sound is generated within us itself?

These vibrations in turn help your chakras or the energy centers to tune and resonate perfectly. They also align the chakras perfectly if practiced with diligence (totality).

Mantra brings a state of balance and resonance between the individual and the depths of his inner being. They allow the individual to unleash inner cosmic powers, forces and knowledge. The sound patterns of the mantra stimulate a certain effect on the mental, physical and psychic nature of an individual. Each mantra will create, or draw out, a specific symbol within one’s psyche.

Are beej Mantras Religious Practice?

There are two important points in regards to mantras that should be taken into account. Firstly, mantra should never be misunderstood to be the name of a particular god of a particular religion. There should be no conflict between your religion and mantra. Many people think they cannot repeat Om Namah Shivaya because they would be reciting the name of a Hindu god when they are Christian or Muslim.
Secondly, a mantra cannot be translated. Translation alters the sound. Even though mantras are found in Hinduism, in Buddhism, Catholicism, in Islam and among the Parsis and other religions and sects, they are never translated. If you change the succession and order of the sounds, the mantra ceases to be a mantra. If you translate the words you may have a very beautiful prayer, but not a mantra.

How much And when ?

Mantras for spiritual evolution must be practiced for a set amount of time every day. If the mantra is repeated too much, it will affect the whole system, and those who are very psychic, sensitive, unstable, or subject to hallucinations, may not be prepared for that at all. If you regularly repeat the mantra for ten minutes daily, within a few days you will know if you are oversensitive and whether the mantra is impressing your mind to a larger of lesser extent.

By Amitabh Swetta

We are at a point of time on this planet where we have damaged it to write our own extinction. Its time to wake up and do something for the mother earth in return. As we are living on this planet and feeding off it consistently, it’s our Duty to see towards it that we save and nurture her.
We made a list of a few things that can change the footprint of ours to save this beautiful blue rock in space.

They say charity begins at home but we @1000Petals Say, it begins at home. And trust us this charity actually will save you money than giving it away.

So lets begin a change from improving and making our home green and make a positive impact on this earth.

  1. Replace all the bulbs to LED:

You will save 66% by replacing incandescent bulbs to LED bulbs. It will save the earth of 400 pounds of greenhouse effects.

  1. Use extension Leads:

By using extension leads and turning them off when not in use can save your home’s energy consumption by 15%.

  1. Unplug your TV

TV’s are typically kept on standby for about 17 hours a day. Remember to switch it off from the plug point.

  1. Open the blinds

Open the blinds and let the light in. Natural light lifts mood, makes you more productive and saves a lot of unnecessary consumption of electricity.

  1. Buy recycled toilet paper

  1. Get a spider plant

The spider plant removes bacteria from the air and actually cleans the air. A spider plant in every room will make your home bacteria free and clean.

Having a citronella and Lemon grass in your home can reduce the mosquito trouble in urban areas. Grow these plants just outside your windows and see mossies’ disappear.

  1. Plant a tree

Plant and adopt a small sapling and nurture it to become a large tree. We can talk about saving the earth but the steps you take, will actually take will save this planet for the generations to come.

  1. Stop using print unless absolutely necessary

Start using the electronic mediums to share rather than printing on paper. Saves us a lot of trees.

  1. Carry your water bottle.

Carrying your water bottle and filling it at a restaurant or wherever there is a filter available saves the planet from the plastic bottle usage we have become accustomed to. Drop this silly habit at once to save the beautiful planet we live on.

  1. Say no to Straw

Buy a steel straw and avoid plastic straws at all costs. Most of these straws and plastics are damaging the environment in a very big way. #NOSTRAW

  1. Carpool

Try to use public transport or carpool if you are alone. This extremely effective way can help the planet by reducing emissions.

  1. Go on an electronic diet.

In place of TV and the stereo, spend time reading, writing, drawing, telling stories, and making music.
